Kam Kotia reclamation 'complete'Monday, 7th April 2008 (496 views) The rehabilitation of the Kam Kotia mine site in Timmins has reached its close, the Ontario Mining Association (OMA) has announced.Over the winter, the site's capacity was expanded to allow for the long-term treatment of waste water, as well as the re-sloping and vegetation of a tailings impoundment area. The project was made public by the OMA and the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines earlier this year and funded jointly by both bodies. According to the OMA website, minister of northern development and mines Michael Gravelle expressed the government's support for the initiative. OMA President Chris Hodgson commented: "The contribution of our members to reclaiming Crown-owned abandoned mine sites is an expression of our cornerstone values - environmental sustainability and continual improvement in our performance as good corporate citizens." The OMA this year launched the Tom Peters Memorial Reclamation Award, to recognise the pursuit of excellence in mine reclamation.
