High-grade gold intersects have been returned by the second core drill hole at the Haile gold mine in the American state of South Carolina, Romarco Minerals has reported.

Gold mineralisation grading over 0.5 g/t was initially intersected 55 metres below the surface, the company said, with composite results for the drill hole given as 2.42 g/t gold over 72 metres.

This included high-grade zones of 5.38 g/t gold over 23 metres, 13 g/t gold over three metres and 18.1 g/t gold over 1.5 metres.

According to the company, the new hole was drilled 70 metres south-west of previous drilling within the Mill zone that had returned results of 5.7 g/t gold over 46 metres.

It was drilled at a 60-degree angle to reflect the true thickness of what Romarco called an "extensive intercept".

Haile is Romarco Minerals' flagship project. In 1994, its total proven and probable reserves were estimated at 780,100 ounces of gold.

Romarco is also currently working on the Red Canyon and Golden Zebra projects in Nevada, as well as in the Pinos gold district in central Mexico.
