Gold ring "star" of Wiltshire auctionMonday, 25th February 2008 (1149 views) A gold ring has been described as the highlight of a recent auction in Wiltshire. The Wiltshire Times observes that the piece stood out among the rural artefacts recently sold for a collective £12,000, having belonged to a west Wiltshire couple who recently died. According to the publication, Lucy and Viv Reed collected items relating to history and agricultural artefacts, which their family decided to auction after they passed away. "The star lot of the auction was a gold mourning ring, which Mrs Reed used to use as a toggle to tie her neck scarf," asserts the report. Sold for over £4,000, the mourning ring was not the only gold item on offer - another modern piece was auctioned for £2,300. Items no longer present in the farming industry such as shepherd's smocks and lanterns were also featured. A gold crucific is currently being featured at a Held in Trust exhibition in Liverpool, the Liverpool Echo recently revealed.
