Hidden mines emerge in Australia town

Wednesday, 23rd January 2008 (1129 views)

A town in the Birdwood Goldfield of Australia is revisiting old gold mines as interest in the precious metal surges, a new report states.

Cromer is becoming the site of a modern-day gold rush as the town attempts to rediscover its mining heritage, reports the Herald.

Dr Kevin Wills, Maximus Resources managing director, told the publication the town was like "the land time forgot" in terms of gold mining.

"There are hundreds of old gold mines in the hills that have not seen any modern attention," he explained.

Maximus Resources is commencing a drill programme in the area, expecting the Birdwood Goldfield to yield significant gold mineralisation.

While the company is not intending to explore every mine, Dr Wills stated that it will be "drilling to see if the loads are there".

Maximus Resources operates a number of projects in Australia, including the copper-gold Johnnies Reward operation and the Billa Kalina uranium copper gold project.
