Mongolia looks to 'modern mining plan'Friday, 28th December 2007 (1185 views) A plan could be developed in Mongolia in order to ensure that future mining projects in the country learn from mining conducted in environmentally-efficient and conscious ways elsewhere.According to a report from the Mongolian English news provider UB Post, opportunities to study mining in Colorado and California are being supported by the Asia Foundation. In addition, representatives from other Mongolian mining areas have visited Inner Mongolian metallurgical plants and gold mines to experience modern methods of gold mining. Almost half (47.7 per cent) of foreign investment in the Mongolian economy in 2006 was in the mining sector, with China, South Korea, Japan, Australia and Canada all injecting funds into the country. The further development of mining in the country will result in continued economic growth, according to the news source, especially when the new, more modern methods are embraced. Last week, the General Meeting of the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association heard the industry pledge to prioritise the environment.
