A Wichita citizen, who lost her treasured gold ring in 1983, has now been reunited with the Wichita Falls High senior ring almost 25 years later.

The dazzling gold ring, complete with a crimson gem in its centre, was returned to Ginger Shirley after it was found on a beach pathway at South Carolina's Isle of Palms, reports TimesRecordsNews.

A few years ago, South Carolina resident Virginia Fields came across the ring on the same beach which Shirley visited in the summer of 1983.

Using the internet and some detective work, Ms Fields managed to use the inscription on the ring to work out that it could be traced back to the Wichita Falls High School.

The school cross-referenced the inscription of 'GLB' on the inside of the band with a 1984 yearbook to match it with Ginger Shirley and quickly brought the two back together.

Ms Shirley stated her surprise in seeing the ring after such a long time apart: "It amazes me to think that Hurricane Hugo hit that beach and this turned up without a scratch."

Meanwhile, a gold ring has been found in Australia's oldest jail following an extensive conservation programme.
