Troy treasures at reopened Moscow museumMonday, 17th December 2007 (1251 views) A reopened museum in Moscow is dedicating one room to precious gold artefacts, it has been reported. The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts is reopening its main exhibition space in Moscow, asserts Bloomberg. And as part of the gala relaunch, the golden treasures of Troy are to be given their own dedicated space. Uncovered by German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, the gold of Troy was looted by Soviet troops in 1945. Now, the treasures are to be displayed proudly in the new museum, alongside a new space dedicated to ancient Greece as well as works by Cranach and Tiepolo. Modern lighting and new arrangements are said to characterise the new museum, which is being subjected to plans by British architect Norman Foster to extend its scope by 110,000 square metres. "While it doesn't violate its historicity, it's still ultra- modern," said museum director Irina Antonova of the plans. A number of books have been written about the famed golden treasures of Troy.
