A gold crown and belt are among the Korean artefacts set to appear in a Texas museum next month, Korea.net has reported.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston (MFAH), the oldest in the state, is set to host a display entitled Arts of Korea, where a collection of works representing some 5,000 years of Korean history will be displayed.

Among the items in the exhibit are a gold belt and crown dating back to the Silla Dynasty, which lasted from 57 BC to 935 AD.

Some $1.5 million (£726,776) has been set aside to fund the display, including the purchase of artwork from Korea. Of this sum, the Korea Foundation contributed $400,000.

Currently, there are 18 galleries in museums worldwide which feature Korean artefacts, including several in the US, two in Germany and exhibits in Canada, the UK, France, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

The collection will be open to the public from mid-December, with galleries celebrating artwork from China, India and Japan scheduled to open during 2008.
