A drilling campaign has begun on the Ecum Secum gold property in the eastern Canadian province of Nova Scotia, Ressources Appalaches has announced.

The company initiated the project, which is set tot total around 1,500 metres on completion, to evaluate potential extensions on a gold mine on the site, which was last worked at the beginning of the 20th century.

It is thought that as mineshafts from the original site have been discovered more than one kilometre away from the mining location, there is a possibility that underground gold-bearing veins could also extend over the same distance.

Andre Proulx, president of Ressources Appalaches, said the drilling of the first boreholes should be completed next month and it is expected the company will find gold grades valued at a minimum of 15.6 grams per tonne.

The company is currently set to participate in two exhibits in the Canadian province of Quebec in the coming week.

One is to be held at the historic Chateau Frontenac hotel in Quebec City, with the second taking place at Montreal's Palais de Congres.
