Talk on gold rush women in CaliforniaMonday, 26th November 2007 (1027 views) A talk in Modesto, California is set to examine the role that women played in the state's gold rush.Nancy Taniguchi is to speak about her article, Weaving a Different World: Women and the California Gold Rush. The Modesto Bee's events calendar offers details of the event, which is aimed at the senior population of the area. Guests aged 60 and over can attend the event - held at the Samaritan Village campus on December 3rd - free of charge. Ms Taniguchi holds a PhD in American History from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City and has published a number of articles including Weaving a Different World: Women and the California Gold Rush, which is published in Rooted in Barbarous Soil: People, Culture, and Community in Gold Rush California, edited by Richard J Orsi and Kevin Starr. Among these is Stigmatising Okies in Gordon Morris Bakken's California History: A Topical Approach.
