Gold sculpture displayed at MasterworksThursday, 22nd November 2007 (2413 views) A display by Colombia-born designer and sculptor Robert Vengoechea combining cast metals and 18-carat gold is to be part of a special exhibit at this year's Carolina Designer Craftsmen Show, according to the Asheville Citizen-Times.The special exhibit programme, entitled Masterworks, will contain art created from a number of diverse craft areas, including mixed media, wood, jewellery, pottery, quilt-making and metal arts. Mr Vengoechea, now a resident of Black Mountain, is known as a master wax carver and is acclaimed for his fine jewellery and art creations. For this year's Masterworks display, he intends to use gold as part of his piece, which will also incorporate gemstones into its unique geometric shape. Held annually over the Thankgiving holiday weekend since 1970, the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Show is set to run from November 23rd to 25th at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. More than 100 members of the craftsmen's guild are set to showcase their work at the event.
