Environmental training for Guyana minersWednesday, 21st November 2007 (988 views) Gold miners in Guyana are to receive training in environmental management and living standards, it has been reported.The educational opportunity is being provided through the second phase of the Guyana Environmental Capacity Development (GENCAPD) project, Stabroek News reports. Dating back to March 1999, the first phase of the GENCAPD project was carried out by the Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology and ended in 2005. This new phase is receiving 83 per cent of its funding from the Canadian International Development Agency. It is said to be aimed at ensuring that the expansion of Guyana's gold mining sector is balanced with environmental sensitivity. Gold companies operating in Guyana include Guyana Goldfields, a Canadian company.
