A deep core drilling operation is now underway at an underground gold mine in Quebec, Canada, to test historical gold resource levels 100 metres below the mine's ninth level, according to Clifton Star Resources.

The drilling programme commenced following an announcement by the company's vice president of exploration, Fred Archibald, in which he stated that the 3,000-metre operation would be carried out on four holes at the site by Chibougamou Diamond Drilling.

According to Clifton Star Resources, the Duquesne Mine - which is situated in the Rouyn-Noranda region of Quebec along the Destor Porcupine fault - has historically produced more than 2.08 million grams of gold.

The company has also announced that is it currently investigating the potential of acquiring other gold-bearing projects in the region.

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Clifton Star Resources is currently focused on the development of mining areas in Canada and is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
