Line cutting crews are mobilising at the Orphan gold mine - also known as the Dik Dik mine - for initial ground work at the site, according to Manitis Mineral Corporation.

Some 2,460 ounces of gold have previously been extracted from the property, which was in operation from 1934 to 1935.

Robin Ross of the corporation said the company is "extremely pleased" to begin initial groundwork on the site and that given the recent discoveries of gold in the region, the project may have "company-making potential".

Located in the Onaman-Tashota greenstone belt, the property contains the newly-discovered Foisey Occurrence, which appears to have a strike length of 750 metres of surface mineralisation.

It is situated adjacent to Kodiak Exploration's Hercules gold project, which has yielded new gold discoveries in recent months.

Based in Toronto, Mantis Minerals currently holds a number of gold exploration properties in the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario in addition to the Orphan gold mine.
