A new exhibition at Princeton University in the US includes a number of gold coins, it has been reported.

According to Numismatic News, the main gallery of Firestone Library at the Ivy League university is to host Numismatics in the Renaissance between November 9th 2007 and July 20th 2008.

As well as gold coins and medals from the period, manuscripts, prints, drawings and maps will feature in the wide-ranging exploration of Renaissance Europe.

The report explained that Princeton University's coin collection is particularly rich in examples of early currency study.

Selected gold coins are to illustrate the attempts of the period's rulers to present themselves as continuing the tradition of ancient leaders, according to the publication.

An opening symposium entitled The Rebirth of Antiquity: Numismatics, Archaeology, and Classical Studies is to be held on Friday November 9th to mark the event's commencement.

Princeton University became the fourth college of British North America when it was founded in 1746 as the College of New Jersey, the university's website states.
