Thursday, 25th October 2007 (1870 views) Assay results from the first four drill holes of a Phase One exploratory drilling programme at the Independence mining property found that three of the four holes intersected gold mineralisation, according to General Metals. The holes were drilled as the first part of a drilling programme that is scheduled to take place in stages, beginning with 25 holes in total. Some 15 holes have already been drilled at the site. According to Steve Parent, chief executive and president of General Metals, the company chose to have the first four holes analysed as quickly as possible to provide guidance for the rest of the exploration programme. "Once our assays catch up to the drilling operation, we can add additional holes to our program designed to establish continuity of mineralisation," he said. The Independence mine is situated in the Battle Mountain Gold district in northern Nevada. According General Metals' website, the company aims to use the Phase One drilling operation to convert a shallow target of 235,000 ounces of gold on the property into a resource category.
