Wedding Season in Islamabad and Rawalpindi is ushering in a large demand for gold, it has been reported.

Shawwal, the month following Ramadan, is traditionally a prime time for nuptials and the accompanying gold adornments tend to witness a surge in popularity during the period, reports Islamabad News.

"The number of customers has increased because families have started buying jewellery sets or placing orders for the wedding of their dear ones," Muhammad Bilal, owner of a jewellery shop at Sarafa Bazaar, told the publication.

Rawalpindi, described by the news provider as one of the country's largest gold markets, sees shop attendants offer customers boxes filled with gold jewellery and other gold items.

The report also suggests that gold shopping festivals and jewellery events attract the attention both of prospective buyers and people who just want to marvel at the precious metal.

In related news, PC Jewellers - based in Delhi - recently held a nine-day gold jewellery and fashion exhibition as a precursor to the forthcoming wedding season, it was reported.
