Wednesday, 24th October 2007 (1906 views) A gold urn dating back to the Baekje Kingdom has been discovered in North Korea, it has been reported.According to the Korea Times, the artefact was buried some 1,430 years ago and stands as the biggest ever discovery from the kingdom - which dated from 18 BC to 660 AD - announced the Buyeo National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage. "This provides an important base for chronological recordings of Baekje history and other archaeological research materials from the same period," the institute stated, according to the news provider. Along with the gold urn, bronze and silver containers were also found, all containing sari - or the cremated remains of a celebrated monk. The items were discovered in a Moktap or wooden pagoda in the grounds of the Wangheungsa Temple, it was reported. According to the Seoul metropolitan government website, the Baekje Kingdom was founded in 18 BC and enjoyed its prime under the reign of King Geunchogo in the middle of the fourth century.
