A new exhibit at Birmingham's Museum of Art in Alabama explores the history of the House of the Golden Bracelet in Pompeii.

The show relives the story of a man, woman and two children - remade in plaster - who were frozen beneath volcanic ash while carrying more than 200 gold and silver coins, while the mother wore a gold bracelet, reports the Press-Register.

As the museum's website explains, in 79AD the Vesuvius volcano erupted, engulfing the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum as well as the suburban settlements of Terzigno and Oplontis in ash and gas.

Pompeii: Tales from an Eruption brings to life this tale through gold bracelets, marble statues and other art.

And among the people and objects frozen in time by the volcanic liquid was gold carried by the depicted family, the exhibit shows.

The Birmingham Museum of Art houses more than 17,000 paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures spanning ancient to modern times, the institution's online presence notes.
