A new medal, featuring an image of a gold panner and made of one-ounce 0.9999 fine gold has been introduced by the Lasqueti Mint, according to Numismatic News.

The private mint has produced the medal, dated 2008, for the Yukon-based corporation Mammoth Tusk Gold, which supplied the gold for the medals from its Ross Mine property, located in the Canadian Klondike.

One side of the coin features the image of a sourdough gold panner, while the reverse depicts a large-tusked woolly mammoth, designed by Ray Lipovsky, an engraver at the mint.

According to the news source, the project has set a new standard for environmentally aware mines, which only fall under the label of Mammoth Gold when they demonstrate compliance with strict social and environmental guidelines.

All gold medallions produced at the Lasqueti Mint, located in British Columbia, Canada, are hand made, according to J&M Coin and Jewellery.
