Friday, 19th October 2007 (1758 views) Gold producer Anglo American has been commended for its environmental performance at an Africa-based recent awards ceremony.At the Nedbank Capital Green Mining Awards, Anglo American was recognised in a variety of areas for its environmental performance. These include the Amandebult environmental management system, which was commended for its holistic approach to environmental protection. Other winners at the awards included junior mining company Akapa Mining for its Flamingo breeding island at Kimberly-based Kamfers dam. The Nedbank Capital Green Mining Awards competition is in its second year and open to entrants from across Africa, although all accolades were based in South Africa this year. Nedbank Capital's head of mining and resources Mark Tyler said: "The response to this year's awards indicates that awareness around sustainability has increased." Anglo American's gold stake is centred around gold producer AngloGold Ashanti, in which it holds a 17.3 per cent stake.
