Friday, 19th October 2007 (4863 views) A new book detailing the history of gold will be published by GFMS (formerly Gold Fields Mineral Services) in November, the precious metals consultancy reported.The book, written by Timothy Green, is titled The Ages of Gold and chronicles 6,000 years of gold history. Beginning with the ancient origins of gold in Rome, China, Greece, Egypt, Troy and pre-Columbian Latin America, the book tells the history of gold through the perspective of mining, markets, merchants and goldsmiths. It also details the various ways that gold has been used as a symbol of power and wealth over time, including as jewellery and as a form of currency. Author Timothy Green has previously written several books on the gold market - including The Gold Companion, The Millennium in Gold, The Prospect for Gold and The World of Gold - and has spent nearly thirty years as a consultant for gold surveys carried out for Gold Fields Mineral Services. The Ages of Gold is set to be published on November 14 2007.
