HE-5 to award Nevada scholarshipsFriday, 28th September 2007 (1179 views) Gold mining company HE-5 has launched a scholarship scheme for students in Nevada.Pupils in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties are being invited to submit an essay for the chance to win one of five $2,500 (£1,240) awards. Contestants are asked to answer the question: Why is mining so important to Nevada? for the competition, which is being judged by the local Nevada Appeal newspaper. Denyse Raynault, the company's chief executive officer, voiced his pleasure at sponsoring the scheme, describing it as an opportunity for the gold company to "give back to the children of Carson City, Nevada". "As a socially responsible corporation, we believe that actively sponsoring these types of contests is a key element of our operational program," he added. HE-5's Overman property in Nevada is located in the Comstock Lode, which has yielded more than eight million ounces of gold since 1859.
