A US goldsmith has donated a 22-carat gold ring to the Gemological Institute of America Museum.

The Jewellers Circular Keystone reports that San Diego jewellery designer has donated the award-winning gold ring "Elation" ring to the museum.

The gold ring is hand-fabricated with "granulation" and "anticlastic raising" and is set with two rubies.

"When GIA Museum Director Elise Misiorowski told me that donated, award-winning pieces would inspire future designers, how could I not want to be a part of that cycle," the Jewellers Circular Keystone reported Ms Seetoo Schiele as saying.

She added that it was a "privilege" to give back to the jewellery industry.

In other gold news, Widex has released a 24-carat gold hearing aid covered in 220 diamonds retailing at £25,000.
