Visitors pan for gold at old mine

The aptly-named town of Goldvein is home to Virginia's only museum based solely on the state's history of gold and gold mining.

Monroe Park's Mining Camp Museum has just finished constructing its two brand new mining camp structures and is to celebrate on September 8th with a jubilee, reports the Fauquier Times-Democrat.

The museum's brand new assay office and bunk house are representations of genuine functioning mining buildings and help the museum bring the area's rich gold mining history to life.

Bob Sinclair, the curator and park manager, told the paper: "The search for knowledge about gold drives people to come to the museum and that knowledge can be found in our rivers.

"People have a natural curiosity about gold. Gold has driven the actions of man since thousands of years ago, when they realized it was of value."

Goldvein has a population of approximately 200 people.
