Indian gold mines 'to modernise'Tuesday, 21st August 2007 (1073 views) Hutti Gold Mines (HGM) is reported to be ready to modernise its processing units.According to Newindpress.com, a Chennai-based manufacturing company is to collaborate with an Australian firm to replace old machines. New shafts will allow the facility's miners to reach depths of 3,000 ft and will improve processing capacity from 1,400 metric tonnes to up to 2,000 metric tonnes of ore per day. Currently employing up to 2,500 workers in the mines, HGM is located in the state of Karnataka, India . Owned by the government of Karnataka, HGM produces around three tonnes of gold a year and its mines contain readily extractable native gold and gold-bearing sulphides, The Hindu has reported. Earlier this year, the company's management initiated steps to improve the facilities of where its worker's live. The Hindu on Sunday reported that the management had finalised estimate to improve water supply, roads within the mine area and the village and the facilities at the hospital.
