Stolen gold recovered in India

Gold jewellery stolen from a property in Chennai, India, has been recovered by police who arrested one person, it has been reported.

John Britto of Nehru Nagar in Guindy revealed that gold jewellery consisting of roughly 45 sovereigns, was stolen from his house, the Hindu reports, however it was recovered following investigation by a special team.

The gold items were recovered from the thief's house along with gold jewellery pledged to private financiers.

In other positive news for gold jewellery in India, the country's largest gold jewellery manufacturer and exporter, Rajesh Exports, has been named a nominated agency for the import of gold for consumption in India by the government.

AFX News reports that the company will be able to improve its operations and make cost savings now that it is able to import gold directly on its own.

India is the world's biggest consumer of gold according to the news provider.
