Gold mining firm releases sustainability reportTuesday, 26th June 2007 (1102 views) Gold mining company Teck Cominco has released its annual sustainability report.The document - This Is Our Future - reiterates the firm's commitment to sustainability in a variety of forms. Teck Cominco has divided its aims for 2007 into five areas: fostering corporate governance, generating wealth, demonstrating excellence in safety, health and environmental performance, driving technological innovation and fostering sustainable communities. Among the external schemes of which the firm is a member is the Mining Association of Canada's Towards Sustainable Mining Initiative, which is expected to add protocols relating to biodiversity protection and improving relationships between the mining sector and Aboriginal communities in 2007. The organisation also supports the British Colombia Children's Hospital Foundation and states that it has pioneered a number of initiatives including the Excellence in Child Health Fund and the construction of the child health centre. Headquartered in Vancouver, Teck Cominco bills itself a "world leader" in the production of zinc and metallurgical coal as well as its gold, copper and specialty metals production.
