International gold exploration company Hemis Corporation has announced it is to conduct a gold exploration programme in Cook Inlet, Alaska.

Hemis has revealed that it has entered into an agreement with Aspen Exploration Corporation to acquire its Anchor Point gold project in Cook Inlet.

According to the terms of the agreement, Hemis will acquire all of Aspen's map interests and aeromagnetic surveys in addition to its geological information on the Cook Inlet.

Furthermore, Hemis will receive rights to Aspen's Offshore Prospecting Permit applications.

"Gold has been known from the beaches around Cook Inlet for over a century. The gold is often associated with the mineral magnetite which can be identified by geophysical surveys," commented Dr Douglas Oliver, Chief Geologist for Hemis.

He added that a review of the aeromagnetic data suggested that there is potential for offshore gold deposits around Anchor Point.

Last week, Hemis announced the start of drilling at its El Tigre project in eastern Sonora, Mexico.
