East Asia Minerals Corporation is to explore and develop a gold project in Indonesia.

Known as the Miwah project, it measures 30,000 hectares and encompasses a very large gold prospect with multi-million ounce gold potential.

Limited historic drilling already indicates this and the project's location in the severely under-explored Aceh province of North Sumatra makes it a highly prospective site.

Michael Hawkins, the president of East Asia Minerals Corporation, said: "This is our third advanced acquisition in Indonesia.

"Together with other projects under negotiation, these will form the core of a very strong exploration portfolio in this high potential gold-copper terrain."

He added that the firm is looking forward to working with its Indonesian partners and is encouraged with the support received from the Indonesian government in trying to develop the project.

The site is in the same arc as another gold project called Martabe which contains lots of gold and was mined extensively in the 1990s by a company called Highlands Pacific. Grades from this work included 71 metres at 1.4 grams of gold per tonne.
