An illegal strike at DRDGold's South African Blyvooruitzicht mine has begun again as workers look to receive greater wages.

In an ongoing saga, the strike had ended on February 18th and workers had retaken their place at the property, however, now the strike has resumed, the mining company has said that employees are on a final warning which could then be followed by sackings.

Surface operations have continued to date throughout the strike action, although underground production levels have been affected by the walk out.

The illegal strike began initially on February 13th and lasted until February 18th. It has been labelled unlawful by the South African labour court.

Rock drill workers are said to be seeking a 40 per cent increase in their pay packet as well as leave pay.

Final warnings were therefore issued to them on February 20th and non-compliance with this means workers face dismissal, in accordance with the court order from February 14th deeming their actions illegal.
