Thursday, 25th January 2007 (2216 views) Infrastructure surrounding the Jerooy gold deposit in Kyrgyzstan is to be upgraded in a bid to improve safety and protect the environment.The construction company USM-4 has begun the reconstruction of some 29.8 kilometres of access roads to the deposit in order to bring them into line with current safety requirements. A host of engineering structures such as bridges, pipelines and roadside embankments will also be modernised to improve safety for workers at the site. As well as this a 15-kilometre cargo cableway is to be constructed to help protect the environment and cut the cost of transporting gold ore from the mine to the processing plant. The works have been approved by the State Agency on Environment Protection, the Federal Committee for Mining and Industrial Supervision and the State Architectural and Constructional Surveillance Inspectorate. Construction is expected to be carried out swiftly, with strict deadlines imposed for the completion of the projects. The Jerooy gold deposit is the second largest gold deposit in Kyrgyzstan and according to initial estimates contains up to 11.8 million tonnes of gold ore.
