More gold on the prolific Cortez trendThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 24th January 2007 (3276 views) Miranda Gold Corporation, a gold exploration company working in Nevada, has just reported the results of its second round of drilling at its project in Lander County.Known as the Horse Mountain project, it is a joint venture with prolific miner Barrick Gold and during this round of drilling some 2,636 metres of reverse-circulation drilling was undertaken. Some of the highlights from the results include one 90 foot stretch with a grade of 0.0222 grams of gold per tonne and another 50 foot length with a grade of 0.017 grams of gold per tonne. The project is about ten miles away in a north-westerly direction from Mine Complex, another active mine. Both lie along the Cortez gold trend which, in turn, is part of the Eureka-Battle Mountain gold belt that includes many mines along its length. The Cortez trend is largely unexplored so additional discoveries are expected all the time, with growth guessed to occur at a similar speed to the Carlin trend. One recent find was at Placer Dome's Cortez Hills deposit along the trend which held a Nevada record of 1.96 ounces of gold per tonne over an interval of 400 feet.
