Ancient Indus relics could be displayed in India

Tuesday, 23rd January 2007 (1446 views)

Ancient relics from two cities associated with the Indus valley civilization could be displayed in India following talks with Pakistani officials.

It is hoped that ongoing talks with cultural diplomats could see a number of treasures from the cities of Harappa and Mohenjodaro go on display in India as part of an event designed to showcase the common history of India and Pakistan, reports the Daily News & Analysis.

An official for the country's national museum, explained: "We’ve had a preliminary round of discussion with Pakistan and if all goes well, we would be looking at an exhibition of ancient cultural remnants."

He added: "There is a common interest on both sides to see and experience historic relics that have had an impact in shaping the future of the countries. People in India are curious about our common heritage and exhibitions will be a major boost in creating better understanding between India and Pakistan."

The Karachi National museum has a wide range of exhibits from the Indus period that could take part in the tour including a collection of gold, semi-precious stones, silver and bronze ornaments as well as more practical objects such as knives, saws and fishing hooks.
