Wednesday, 17th January 2007 (2895 views) A gold and copper resource of potentially "monstrous" proportions is currently being explored by Solomon Gold in Sutakiki, located on the Solomon Islands. In collaboration with subsidiary Australian Resources Management, the Auckland-based mining company have employed the services of Board Longyear New Zealand to drill at the concession. The company are currently awaiting the arrival of equipment and a drill rig via helicopter at the Solomon Island capital of Honiara. ARM operations manager David Jelley told Fairfax: "Depending on the size of the thing it is going to take an enormous number of holes if it is as big as we think." "The indications we are seeing on the ground and the results from the first hole, the observations from the first drill hole, we've hit something large." With expectations high that the property plays host to extensive resources, drilling work could take years to complete at the site. Solomon Gold has said that it has identified a series of 22 targets for further exploration and development work on the island.
