'Gold shines' in ShanghaiMonday, 30th October 2006 (3679 views) The inaugural China International Gold Fair is to open on Thursday and run until November 5th.Shanghai will host the three day event due to its current booming jewellery market which has seen the city and its surrounding area record a 40 per cent annual growth in precious jewellery sales. To serve the rapidly growing market of 16 million citizens, the fair organiser CMP Asia has decided to bring an international show to the city. The rise in popularity of gold is said to be due to the ameliorated living conditions within Shanghai which have transformed it into an affluent and cosmopolitan place which sets lifestyle trends for the rest of the country. Exhibits on show will include fashion jewellery, accessories such as buckles and belts, watches, handbags as well as golden ornaments. The fair will allow international suppliers and buyers in the jewellery trade to build sales and business contacts within the Guangdong province which is one of the country's major jewellery production and supply centres.
