'Golden opportunity' for gold-diggers

Wednesday, 25th October 2006 (2227 views)

A fully operating Australian gold mine is going on sale over the internet.

Little Wonder Gold Mine is situated in Victoria and is due to be sold for AUD$50,000 (£20,000).

The Ovens Valley location has previously reaped five ounces of gold per tonne and around seven grams of gold ore exists within the ore body on average.

James Dutton, managing director of duttondirect.com which will auction the mine, said: "Excuse the pun, but we think this is a golden opportunity for some canny buyer to buy not only a piece of history but the chance to strike it rich."

Current owner Mr Kim Burt told prospective buyers that the mine has a legend attached to it about two bothers and a lost gold fortune, which he heard when he was young.

Preserved gold mines are available for visits in certain areas all around the globe. In the UK you can visit gold mines that were used in Roman times such as the Dolaucothi system in Wales's Llanwrda.
