Thursday, 28th September 2006 (7721 views) According to Jewelers Circular Keystone Magazine, the famous golden nuggets from the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas are to go up for auction later this year. The collection will be sold as a single lot at Bonhams and Butterfields auction house during its Natural History sale to be held in Los Angeles on December 3rd. Included among the highly recognisable pieces is the largest nugget from the collection that has been on display outside the legendary casino since the late 1970s, commonly known as the "Parrot Head" nugget, weighing 21.61 ounces. There is also a 15-nugget gold watch chain, a nuggeted railroad switch key, and the 12-ounce "Eagle's Head" included along with several of the other items. Until they were removed in August earlier this year, the nugget collection had been kept on display in a high-security bullet-proof case outside the Las Vegas casino as a tourist attraction, which was a frequent stopping point for guided trips around the Nevada city.
