Compalex Meliadine exploration sees positive results

Thursday, 29th June 2006 (2764 views)

Comaplex Minerals says that its efforts to explore a previously uncharted portion of its West Meliadine gold property in Canada have given the firm signs of promise.

Before this spring, a frozen lake that covers a small part of the Tiriganiaq deposit had barely been drilled, but between April 10th and May 13th a total of 11 holes were made with a combined depth of 3,686 metres.

Compalex has announced itself to be satisfied at the discoveries made in the exploration programme. Best results included 26.1 grammes per tonne of gold over 2.3 metres in one hole, 22.7 grammes per tonne over 2.6 metres in another and 10.1 grammes per tonne over 3.8 metres in a third.

A further four shallower holes were also made, of which one showed results of 5.6 grammes per tonne of gold over 11 metres, including 13.5 grammes per tonne over 2.5 metres, although unfortunately the other three showed nothing of note.

Drilling restarted on June 5th and it is estimated that up to four drill rigs could be on operation during the summer programme, covering an estimated total of 11,000 metres in the hope of confirming expected or better than expected results.

The company will also be drilling for a further 3,000 metres in the high grade Aqpik and Aklak surface deposits, located 30 kilometres to the east of Tiriganiaq.
