Metallon gold offers opportunities to local peopleMonday, 26th June 2006 (1515 views) Southern African mining firm Metallon Gold Zimbabwe has said that it plans to promote the indigenisation of the mining industry to the benefit of all.The company is one of the leading miners in the region, with five operations in Zimbabwe and another in South Africa. The new move will benefit all stakeholders with an interest, according to the company's chief executive, Collen Gura, who said: "We have something in store which will excite the cabinet, employees, shareholders and indigenous players alike in the industry." He said it was a "win-win proposal" but did not comment on the details. Metallon Gold is committed to sustainable development and says that "occupational safety and health of employees are top priorities". Methods such as workshops and prominent signs are used to ensure safety at mine sites. The firm is also concerned with preserving the environment and social investment. It offers "opportunities to previously disadvantaged people to enter the mining and minerals industry and benefit from southern Africa's mineral resources".
