Bema Gold's good reputation leads to Russian progressThursday, 22nd June 2006 (1345 views) Bema Gold's Kupol project in Russia is progressing rapidly and successfully because of the company's "excellent reputation" in the world's biggest country. That's according to Bema Gold president and chief executive Clive Johnson, who was speaking at the company's annual general meeting in Vancouver this week, Mineweb reports. In April this year, Bema Gold received approval for a feasibility study for the Kupol project in eastern Russia from the country's Federal Agency of Environmental, Technical and Nuclear Supervision. The feasibility study contains information on, among other things, environmental protection and the storage of mine tailings. The mine is due to go into production in mid-2008 and will have a lifespan of eight and a half years. Mr Johnson told AGM attendees that the project was going well because Bema operates in a safe manner, respects local people and "delivers on time, within budget". Bema Gold "recognises responsible environmental stewardship as an integral part of proper business practices". The company is committed to minimising environmental risk and protecting public welfare.
