Friday, 19th May 2006 (3619 views)

The Couture Convention, Las Vegas, is set to feature two of the world's most famous pieces of jewellery from a private collection.

Both pieces are partly made of gold and were bought for Dame Elizabeth Taylor by her husband, producer Mike Todd.

The first piece is a gold and platinum tiara set with diamonds, which Dame Elizabeth wore to the Academy Awards the "Around the World in 80 Days", produced by her husband, won Best Picture.

She said: "It wasn't fashionable to wear tiaras then, but I wore it anyway because Mike was my king."

Also to be displayed is a necklace from around 1900 that consists of a series of diamonds mounted in gold and platinum, reports IDEX.

Dame Elizabeth says she still wears this piece "when the occasion calls for it".
