DGJG chairman warns of bleak future without developmentThursday, 27th April 2006 (3072 views) The chairman of the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) has said that the industry faces a "bleak future" if gold and jewellery marketing is not stepped up.Tawhid Abdullah, speaking at the City of Gold Conference in Dubai, said that the marketing of these luxury goods needed to be on par with the approach taken by other leisure and luxury products around the world. "My clarion call is to all those who are in the jewellery industry and those benefiting from our industry to come forward and be innovative and constructive in their thinking," he urged. He said the need for more up to date marketing strategies required "some amount of urgency" as other industries, such as fashion and perfumery, were ahead of the game. "Our products give value that lasts for ever and is fair to the consumer for the hard earned money she or he pays," concluded Mr Abdullah.
