Magnificent diamonds go under the hammerTuesday, 28th March 2006 (4156 views) Sotheby's New York will hold an important jewel auction on April 25th.The Magnificent Jewels Auction will feature the Rojtman Diamond, a 107.46-carat stone with an estimated value of $1.5 to $2 million, as well as a 39.14-carat diamond set in gold, diamonds.net reports. The latter is a cushion-shaped fancy intense yellow diamond with an 18-carat gold mounting and is worth an estimated $1 to $1.5 million. Also going under the hammer in Manhattan will be the pear-shaped Golden Maharaja diamond, which is dark orange-brown in colour and weighs an impressive 65.57 carats. Its estimated price is $400,000 to $600,000. The jewellery collection, which also features pieces by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Harry Winston, will be open to the public for viewing from April 19th to April 24th. Meanwhile, a gold necklace with a 40-carat rectangular diamond went under the hammer in Singapore this weekend, but failed to sell. It was expected that the emerald cut diamond, which is set in an 18-carat gold necklace and laced with smaller diamonds, would fetch up to $370,000.
