Watch auctioneer Antiquorium held a sale on March 15th in New York entitled Important Collector's Wristwatches, Pocket Watches and Clocks, generating $5.7 million.

Top lot was a gentleman's minute-repeating watch by Patek Philippe made from 18-carat pink gold, fetching $462,000 at the auction.

The oversized, self-winding Grande Complication in platinum, made by Audermars Piguet, prompted a fierce bidding war among bidders – finally selling for $411,600.

Attended by bidders from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, Russia and Israel, including commission, telephone and room bidders – in addition to 360 registered bidders tracking the sale online – Antiquorium announced the event a golden success.

Auctioneer Brandon Thomas, in charge of the auction, stated: "These remarkable results for our March 15th New York auction are proof that the American market is continuing to grow exponentially.

"This sale was a 147 per cent increase on the March sale of 2005."

The auction generated 102 per cent of the value of all of the lots, despite selling only 80 per cent by volume.
