Book to launch treasure hunt

Monday, 20th March 2006 (3840 views)

A worldwide hunt for jewels is about to be launched by author Michael Stadther, whose new book Secrets of the Alchemist Dar contains puzzles for readers to solve in order to find the treasures.

The book, to be published in September, follows on from the success of his previous work, A Treasure Trove, which caused a nationwide gold rush in the US as readers tried to decipher clues to find 18-carat gold coins that he and his wife had hidden around the country.

Readers of the latest book will have the chance to find 100 gems, one of which is described as "one of the most precious stones on earth" and worth £530,000, the Observer reports.

Asked about what form the hunt would take, Stadther gave little away. "It might be physical; it might not. People might have to get in cars or on planes; they might not," he said.

The inspiration for the book came from Kit Williams' Masquerade, which saw readers searching for a jewel-encrusted hare.
