Scottish gold ring contest

Tuesday, 14th February 2006 (3784 views)

Gold-loving consumers are being hit with an increasingly bizarre and imaginative array of Valentine's Day schemes to choose from.

Scotland Today is hoping to lead the way this year with a competition that will see the winner proposing to their loved one live on air.

Recognising that the winner shouldn't be going down on bended knee empty handed, the organisers will also supply them with a $1,200 18-carat gold diamond ring.

Monosyllabic simpletons need not apply, however, as the contest is judged on a 60-word passage devoted to why he or she deserves to win.

The victor will then have to summon up all their poetic skills once again as their heartfelt proposal is beamed live across Scotland.

It's not the only far-out scheme on offer in 2006. A Dutch zoo may just have topped Scotland Today by offering lovers a special tour around its premises to observe how mother nature's other species woo each other.
