The popularity of "rudraksha" is seeing a growing number of people donning gold beads to match the spiritual symbols.

Rudraksha refers to a legend of a tree sacred to Shiva, from which seeds were collected and which are now offered as a beaded necklace.

The seeds are said to have come from the tears of Lord Rudra and possess great spiritual and healing power.

With celebrities such as Richard Gere donning the beads, there popularity has quickly grown – and with it has come a new accessory.

Typically they are combined with gold beads as Mumbai jeweller Tanay Seetha told the Financial Express.

He said that a wide range of jewellers now offer the beads, with the spiritual tokens assuming a fashionable status.
