Jewellery offers last-minute Xmas solutionFriday, 9th December 2005 (3933 views) Jewellery remains among the most popular choice for shoppers looking for the perfect Christmas gift according to a new survey. In particular, the Shopping in America 2005 survey indicates that jewellery is often used as a last-minute gift, ranking among the top five choices for the late shopper. Jewellery is also seen as a good addition to the stockings with 14 per cent keen to add a bit of bling to their stocking. Carried out by August Partners on behalf of Macerich, the study also shows how common it is for consumers to do their festive retail binges as the big day approaches. Almost two-thirds still had all their shopping left to do ahead of Christmas by thanksgiving which is celebrated in late November. "About 30 per cent of shoppers surveyed think they can get better deals closer to Christmas, which will likely be the case as deep retailer discounts are expected to continue throughout the holiday season," explained Macerich vice president of marketing and consumer research Garry Butcher.
