Gold jewellery is becoming increasingly popular with the yellow metal adorning people across Britain this Christmas.

A rejuvenated gold has become integral to this season Christmas wishlist.

Celebrities such as Joss Stone have been modelling the latest lines of gold jewellery, with Dino Modolo's range on show at Fashion Rock's awards, while accessories such as the gold-chain bag from Marc Jacobs have been flying off the shelves.

Emagold spokeswoman Mary Brittain told the Guardian that the demand was partly fuelled by a sea-change in attitudes towards gold, with people no longer associating it with the ostentatious image projected in the past.

"I think people are less ashamed to wear gold than they were in the 1980s," she explained.

"These days good-quality gold is no longer considered flash but a sign of taste and opulence."
